Fish Tacos and the Longhorns!

September 11th

We had to check out at 11am and we were tired and hungover but we managed it. I drove around Austin for a bit checking out other hotels in the area to stay for our second night. We settled just south of the river from Austin and went back to sleep for a few hours, we then relaxed a bit and watched the TV and all the 9/11 memorial footage.

For lunch we were taking in another Man vs. Food place, it was called Juan in a Million, they served Mexican food and were famous for their breakfast tacos, when we arrived it was packed to the rafters, it was college football day in Austin as well, the Longhorns were playing so there were a lot of people here who were in town for the game. Juan in a million was a sea of orange.

We got seated and had a free bowl of tortilla chips and salsa, it was great salsa, we ordered our breakfast taco’s and I have to say that compared to the other Man vs. Food places it was a little disappointing, it was basically just scrambled egg with potato’s and refried beans and sausage. We did however get to meet the owner and we had the award winning handshake that he is famous for which totally made the whole experience memorable!

We had a few free hours so we decided to get a chore out of the way and do some laundry. While waiting for it to be done we went outside and played some football, after about only 5 minutes of having a kick about we were drenched in sweat, it was about 38degree’s out and it was blistering sun, we did however continue to play for about half an hour and we were just dripping with sweat. So after laundry we had to go home and shower. We sat around in our room again for a few hours before heading over to meet a friend Jennifer who studies in Austin.

We took a cab over to West Campus, the area just west of the campus that is primarily student housing. We met up with Jennifer whom I had never actually met but knew through my friend David Purdie. Jennifer was very nice, she took us to a local Longhorn bar (the nickname of the college football team) there we got into the atmosphere of the game! Go Longhorns! We also ordered fish tacos which were incredible! Better then Juan in a million, honestly the best tacos I’ve ever had although I’ve barely had any before.

After watching the game we went to go pick up her sister, except when we got there 4 people jumped in the back of the car with Paolo, so that was nice and intimate for him.

We went to a house party on top of a apartment complex, it was amazing, on the top floor they had a bar that you fill with your own alcohol, with chairs and tables overlooking the city of Austin, it was incredible. We were there for the birthday of a guy called Dane, there we met a whole bunch of other people who were students at Texas University or graduates.

From there we moved onto another house party, there it was more like your typical American house party. We played Kings, Beer Pong and shot-gunned beers! Another brilliant night in America! Another night that we will surely forever remember! Just like the movies.

After the party we were told by Jennifer’s sister Tracey that the best food after some drinks was a place called Jack in the Box and to have their tacos, we went back their place to eat them, and I must say that they were not the greatest things ever, infact I would go as far as to say the opposite. They were deep fried with some kind of ‘mystery meat’ as Tracey said. We got back to our place and crashed out!

(apologies for not having many photo's)
